Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands after Amsterdam and the largest port in Europe. From time immemorial, the port has attracted different cultures. This is reflected not only in the street scene, but also in the various restaurants. In the Maasstad, there is only one mentality: don't talk the talk, but walk the walk! This mentality is what the city was rebuilt on after the war. Amstel Housing is a rental agency in Rotterdam. We know the city and its various neighborhoods like no other. With the same mentality as the people of Rotterdam, we help rent out houses or flats. On this page you will find more information about the different Rotterdam neighbourhoods.
As a modern city with a huge international community, Rotterdam is very popular among expats. The dynamics and modern facilities attract many professionals from abroad. Especially now that the city is becoming more and more pleasant and fun. If you have a property to rent out, it may be a good idea to consider private rent to expats. They are often serious people and good tenants. That is why we at Amstel Housing are specialised in renting out houses to expats in Rotterdam. We have years of experience and a large international network. This way we help you to rent out your property easily and quickly.
The Koopgoot, the Meent, the Coolsingel, the Lijnbaan and the Hofplein are well-known places in the centre of Rotterdam. Here you can shop and go out, but also enjoy living. In the bustling centre of this metropolis, all amenities are within easy reach. For example, Central Station, where you can take the train, bus, tram or metro. There is also plenty to do for nightlife enthusiasts. We rent out the best houses and flats in Cool, Stadsdriehoek, Scheepvaartkwartier with its many historic buildings, Dijkzicht and the vibrant and multicultural Oude Westen.
In North you will find the old Rotterdam. This part of town has largely survived the war and this is reflected in the houses and streets. The most famous district in North is the characteristic Old North. The versatility of this district is reflected in the streets, houses, shops and people. Every street is different. The new construction projects in the district make it even more diverse, but there are many beautiful old buildings to be found. As a rental agent in Rotterdam, we also rent out houses and flats in the Agniesebuurt, Blijdorp and Provenierswijk neighbourhoods with many old buildings. Bergpolder is very popular with singles and starters and the Liskwartier with many schools is very child friendly.
Delfshaven used to be part of Delft, but nowadays it is a lively and multifaceted neighbourhood in Rotterdam. Around the historic harbour, this area has developed considerably. There are many shops on the Schiedamseweg and Mathenesserweg. A large part of Delfshaven was destroyed and rebuilt during the bombing. So you will find a surprising combination of historic buildings and new construction. Characteristic is Historisch Delfshaven with many monumental buildings. We also rent out houses in Middelland, the Nieuwe Westen, Mathenesse, the Witte Dorp, Schiemond, the Lloydkwartier with historic buildings on the quay and of course Spangen.
Hillegersberg-Schiebroek is a largely post-war district with lots of green. It is relatively quiet, yet there are enough facilities and recreation areas. Hillegersberg breathes history with the old village and its cosy shops. The Bergse Voor- en Achterplas lake has lovely little harbours. Schiebroek is a green neighbourhood that is also surrounded by various parks. On the north side you will find single-family houses, in the south flats and flats. We as rental agents in Rotterdam are also active in the Molenlaankwartier which is popular with expats because of the international school and Terbregge with nice dike houses on the Rotte.
In Kralingen-Crooswijk, many people live together. And that is reflected in the streets and houses. From old buildings to new developments. It is all there. Lively Kralingen is historic. Here you live in the city, with the nature of the Kralingse forest and the Kralingse lake at walking distance. With the Erasmus University and Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences within easy reach, there is a lot of sociability among students. Crooswijk is just as lively and historic as Kralingen. The shops on the Crooswijkseweg are there for daily shopping and fun. New buildings can also be found on the northern side of Kralingen. Here, many different people, in terms of age, income and origin, live comfortably together. From the mainly new housing estate De Esch, you often have a beautiful view over the river Maas. From Rubroek, the centre is within easy reach, a district that was completely rebuilt after the war.
People who live in IJsselmonde like to live in a quiet, green yet urban environment. With the Maasstad Hospital, Lombardijen Station and Keizerswaard shopping centre, it is nice and quiet here, while there are still plenty of facilities. Beverwaard is the family neighbourhood of Ijselmonde. In this accessible and safe neighbourhood, there is a lot of housing choice and the facilities are excellent. Lombardijen is a lot greener. Here, young and older people live together peacefully. You will find mainly low-rise buildings.
Charlois was soon bastardised by the Rotterdammers and pronounced Sjaarloos. Harbour barons and workers went to live near the harbours. That is why you will find both luxury buildings and working-class houses here. Special in urban Charlois are the Charloisse Lagedijk and the Smitshoekseweg, where it is almost village-like. In Zuidplein, everything is at hand. The shopping centre, a theatre, events location Ahoy and the Ikazia Hospital. There are mainly flats. In the garden village Heijplaat, there is green living between the Rotterdam harbours. This village was built for the employees of the Rotterdamsche Droogdokmaatschappij (RDM). You can almost taste the history here. The other neighbourhoods of Charlois where we mediate as rental agents in Rotterdam are the centrally located Carnisse with many porch houses, Wielewaal, Pendrecht, Tarwewijk and Zuidwijk.
Overschie used to be independent and therefore has an old centre. For the small number of inhabitants there are many primary schools. You will find many young families. There are pre-war neighbourhoods with historic buildings, but also modern villas and flats. Kleinpolder has mainly small flats that are partly being replaced by family homes. Landzicht, on the other hand, is a working-class neighbourhood with small houses. A village atmosphere and historic houses can again be found in Noord-Kethel. It is nice and quiet here, with a recreational lake and lots of greenery in the vicinity. The same applies to Zestienhoven and Schieveen, located on the edge of the city.
The song of the Kuip regularly blows over the Feijenoord district. The Rotterdam football club owes its name to this district. It is a lively and multicultural area that is on the rise. Symbol of this area is the Kop van Zuid, which connects North and South. Here you will find many high-rise buildings with luxury flats overlooking the river Maas. However, there are also quiet residential areas with lots of green. Near the Kop van Zuid is the Noordereiland. It is a unique piece of Rotterdam that is loved by young people thanks to the old buildings that overlook the water. Just as special is Katendrecht, popularly known as "De Kaap". Many educational facilities, Fenix Food Factory, the SS Rotterdam and Theatre Walhalla make it a very popular neighbourhood. As rental agents in Rotterdam, we also mediate in houses in the Afrikaanderwijk, the pre-war Bloemhof, Hillesluis and Vreewijk.
The new buildings in Rotterdam are mainly located in the east. Prins Alexander is modern, spacious and the facilities are excellent! There is a large shopping centre with a big train station, megastores and a home furnishing boulevard. The newest neighbourhood is Nesselande, where many families live thanks to the spacious layout of the area. In Ommoord there are many new construction projects, rejuvenating the neighbourhood. In Prinsenland there is a great diversity of houses. Neighbourhoods with single-family houses, flats and villas. They are all there! Zevenkamp has a shopping centre, schools and many playgrounds. That attracts many young families to this child-friendly neighbourhood. Of course, we also mediate as rental agents in Rotterdam in Het Lage Land, Kralingseveer and the green family neighbourhoods Oosterflank and ‘s-Gravenland.
